Training in welfare work and mental healthcare: measuring impact
This report, published by Onlinehulp Vlaanderen in Dutch, describes methods for measuring the impact of training in the welfare and healthcare sector, with attention to the effectiveness of continuing education for professionals.
Abstract
In a rapidly evolving welfare landscape, it is important for organizations to invest continuously in the development of their staff. This helps them keep up with the latest insights, optimize existing practice, and enable new methods or techniques to be adopted more quickly. Education, training, and professional development require a significant investment of both time and resources. It is therefore important to assess whether, and to what extent, training actually has an impact.
An impact assessment of training gives organizations insight into participants’ motivations for taking part in training, as well as into the quality of the training and its learning effects. Participants themselves can use the impact evaluation to gain insight into their individual progress and the outcomes of their participation in a training program.
In addition, a structural approach to impact assessment enables training organizations to optimize their offerings and to account for them to subsidizing authorities, commissioners, and professional field organizations.
