Carewear: wearables in mental healthcare
This article, written in Dutch, introduces the Carewear project, in which wearable technology is used for stress detection in mental healthcare, describing the opportunities and challenges for the use of wearables in therapeutic and preventive contexts.
Abstract
Wearables make it possible to collect valuable data over longer periods, which can enrich prevention and treatment in mental healthcare. Within the Carewear project, an online platform was developed, together with supporting algorithms and a manual. This allows wearable data to be used specifically for burnout prevention and the treatment of depression. The focus is on physical activity, stress, and heart rate variability. Several organisations are currently testing Carewear with their clients to assess its added value in clinical practice.
